Champagne is not just about Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay. There are also four vines known as “Cépages Oubliés” (French for forgotten grape varieties), with white grapes, which are an integral part of the history and tradition of the Champagne region, although little used and cultivated: their names are Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc (Enfumè or Blanc Vrai) and Pinot Gris (Fromenteau). Although officially authorized, these rare and long-forgotten grape varieties today cover less than 0.3% of the region’s vineyard area, and are mainly concentrated in the Aube region.
