Summer Champagne: the GLUGULP! news not to be missed

If it is true that it cannot rain forever (at least here in the North where May seemed more like a prelude to autumn rather than summer), we are confident in the arrival of the good season at least in the month of June.

If you are also waiting for the summer and can't wait to enjoy the evenings that becoming longer and the aperitifs outdoors, in this article you will find some ideas on what's new in our online shop; a selection of Champagnes that will surprise and win you over.

READY? LET’S START

Blanc de Blancs

We start with a collection of Champagne Blanc de Blancs, produced exclusively with Chardonnay grapes. Fresh, mineral, of great elegance and complexity, these Champagnes are delights that we have chosen for you and which will be perfect to accompany hot summer days.

A sought-after news in our catalogue, the Clément Perseval Champagnes are the mastery that is reflected in every sip, crystalline cuvées that reveal an unparalleled finesse and a salinity that evokes the very essence of the terroir of the Premier Cru of Chamery, with the vineyards located in the highest area at 170 meters above sea level on calcareous soil. This splendid Blanc de Blancs matures in old tonneaux with bottle aging on its yeasts for at least 30 months.

Another new entry in our assortment, which deserves particular attention, is the Domaine Les Monts Fournois, a project born from the collaboration between Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche and their cousin Juliette Alips. Located in Ludes, in the northern part of the Montagne de Reims, the Domaine can be defined as the second estate of the Bérêche family, although it is still in its embryonic stage. Champagne Côte is a pure Chardonnay from grapes from the Vertus vineyards, Premier Cru of the Côte des Blancs. Millésime 2010 is an elegant Champagne, with excellent balance and long aromatic persistence, aged on the yeasts for at least 12 years.

An expression of pure elegance, the Champagne Blanc de Blancs Millésime 2014 by Maison Bruno Paillard is obtained exclusively from the first pressing of Chardonnay grapes from the prestigious Grands Crus of Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. The partial refinement in small barrels (about 20%) and 7 years in the cellar, of which 18 months after dégorgement, allow this Champagne to reach an optimal level of expression, with complex aromatic notes and an elegant structure, perfect, for example, to accompany a fish-based dinner.

Champagne Fleur De Passion by Diebolt-Vallois is born from the Grand Cru vineyards of Cramant in the Côte des Blancs, produced only in the best vintages. Excellence among Blanc de Blancs, it is an exclusive Champagne for those looking for unconventional labels. Fermented in barrique and aged for at least 8 years on the yeasts, this Champagne has a magnificent structure. Austere and complex, with mineral and citrus notes, it has a fresh acidity and a penetrating minerality; the palate is vertical and nervous, but well balanced by a sweetness of yeast, honey and barley, which harmonizes the whole.

We conclude the review of Blanc de Blancs by moving to the Côte des Bar, with another GLUGULP! news not to be missed. Champagne Millésime 2012 by Yann Prophète is a pure Chardonnay of great complexity and depth. The long refinement in fût de chêne gives it an important structure; fresh and lively, it has a marked minerality and long persistence in the finish. Yann's meticulous attention to winemaking makes it a rare gem in the wine scene and an excellent choice for those looking for exclusive, unconventional labels.

The blendings

BAM! the name given by the Tarlant to this Champagne is the acronym that indicates the three varieties of grapes used in the blending, namely Pinot Blanc, Arbanne and Petit Meslier. These rare and low-yielding grape varieties (the so-called cépages oubliés) are grown in vineyards planted in a single parcel (lieu-dit) of the Vallée de la Marne, on sandy, silicon-rich soils, certified organic. A pure Champagne, with lively acidity and a clean, saline finish. The prolonged refinement on the yeasts and the absence of added dosage give complexity and depth.

To be tasted during an aperitif and beyond, the Champagne Extra Brut Grands Vintages by R.H. Coutier pairs perfectly with dishes based on fish, shellfish or fresh cheeses, thanks to its elegant structure and balanced acidity. From grapes from the Grand Cru vineyards of Ambonnay, in the Montagne de Reims, the philosophy behind Coutier wines is based on minimal interventions both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The excellent aromatic complexity and the long and persistent finish make it an extraordinary option for those seeking an accurate wine experience and looking for mineral and structured wines.

Blanc de Noirs

Produced in limited quantities, with only 717 bottles available, the Champagne Bauchet Thomas 2018 by Denis Salomon is a pure Meunier with a strong character and an aromatic complexity that reflects the maximum potential of these surprising grapes. A Champagne that combines tradition and modernity, an authentic expression of the Vandières terroir, in the Vallée de la Marne.

Also in the Vallée de la Marne, in the Vandières cru, the Champagne Les Bauchets V19 by Domaine Nowack is the excellent representation of the commitment and rigorous approach to viticulture and winemaking of the producer Flavien Nowack. 100% Pinot Noir, vinification and fermentation take place in fût de chêne with aging for over 40 months. A Blanc de Noirs perfect to accompany oysters and rich fish, a must for those looking for an authentic and sophisticated tasting experience.

A memorable Rosé

Champagne Rosé Vintage 2009 by Dom Pérignon is the sublime exaltation of Pinot Noir, enriched by a blend that expertly integrates a percentage of Chardonnay. Complexity and mineral elegance are in perfect balance. The palate is full and enveloping, with a creamy texture and a freshness reminiscent of freshly picked berries. Result of the 2009 vintage and vinified with great skill and with a refinement of almost 12 years in the cellar, the Champagne Rosé Vintage 2009 expresses all its tension and expressiveness, resulting in a round, rich and generous wine, surrounded by a nuance of mineral elegance. An extraordinary wine for those seeking a unique and memorable tasting experience.
